Surgical training was taking its toll...

"As a physician towards the end of surgical training, the stress, workload, and relationships with other physicians can be a source of severe anxiety. Working more than 80 hours per week with limited time to personal activities, life was starting to take a toll on my health.

I began to have physical symptoms emerge from my anxiety, which included severe abdominal cramps and headaches. Consultation with many physicians resulted in numerous unnecessary exams with no results. I eventually was able to discuss my issues with Dr. Singh and she was able to identify my career as the source of my issues.

She took the time to talk about my schedule, the relationships with my co-workers, and my fears and anxieties associated with my work. She taught me how to breathe when I feel overwhelmed and to meditate on a regular basis. My symptoms completely resolved and a heaviness on my body was lifted. I found enjoyment in my work once again and this led to the better care of my patients with my clearer mind. Without her, I truly believe my time in medicine would have been limited. She has given me joy again in my career and extended my time as a surgeon."
